Nayanar, the then chief minister of Kerala, in 1987, at a time when tertiary care facilities were extremely inadequate in this part of the country. SUT Hospital was established in the heritage-rich premises of the historic Pattom Palace thus becoming the only super specialty hospital in India functioning within an erstwhile palace being open to the public. The vision was clear — to bring advanced medical and surgical care to the people of Kerala at a time when such facilities were scarce.
With expanded bed capacity and the launch of additional specialty departments, the hospital embraced the latest in medical technology as it went along.
